Year: 2023 | Medium: Drypoint engraving on paper, Chine-collé with street sticker | Dimensions: 11 x 13 inches | Display: Wall-hung (2D)

Artist Statement

This is part of a series I started in 2023. When walking through my neighborhood I would find stickers posted promoting white supremacy, fascism, transphobia, and other forms of bigotry. I would remove the stickers to remove their claim on our space, but I wasn’t content to just ignore that these messages existed in the first place. Deciding they didn’t deserve a more thorough rebuke, though, I settled on printing over their stickers, using a Chine-collé technique, with an image of a dog pissing on them.

About the Artist

I am V. and I am a multidisciplinary artist. My art is a way to filter my experiences in the world into something tangible. With my mixed media work, I want to explore the messages that the materials carry. I am more drawn to the materials with messages I don’t agree with. Working with found and savaged objects from my environment, I respond to these messages and create works that exist in opposition to the materials original meaning.
