Artist Statement

A stance against leftist echo chambers. This happy accident of a collage piece signifies to me the retired hotep, a converted celebrationist and reformed revolutionary. A black man still dreams of fucking the system, but he will do so whilst making space for black joy, as perhaps butterflies during the building of the pyramids, which has always been part of our history.

About the Artist

Tosin Jerugba is a Brazil-based, Nigerian dyke refugee, and it shows (in her work). She is a collage artist and zine maker who is very fond of watercolours, oil pastels, and her red-footed tortoise. Her work has been exhibited at the Civic Theatre Dublin, Kafe Krise in Kassel, and Estacao Cabo Branco in Paraiba.
