Artist Statement

My work exposes racism, white privilege, corruption, and misuse of power. I source my images from a collection of vintage magazines, gun catalogues, and nature/animal guide books, which draw connections between then, now, and forever. In Swept Under, I created a collage that directly confronts the deception and violence regularly swept under the rug. The sanded portions of the vintage rugs suggest history, in that this has been ongoing, and we are worn out as a society.

About the Artist

Born 1980, Akron, OH. Currently lives in Westerville, OH.

After receiving my BFA in Fine Arts from Columbus College of Art and Design in 2003, I went on to receive my MFA from The School of Visual Arts, NY, in 2004. I lived and worked in New York until 2006, then moved back to Columbus to work at The Wexner Center for the Arts, teach at CCAD, manage a gallery, and then work in the design field after the recession. I am a part-time artist, full-time mother of two, and full-time small business owner of Better Beverage, N/A Libations.
