Artist Statement
This work is a meditation on the exhilaration, strangeness and strength of motherhood. Mothers fulfill cultural expectations which can morph into impersonal archetype and alienation. Hanging on to your personhood under such conditions is a great achievement.
About the Artist
I am a self-taught artist living and working in Columbus, Ohio. My main medium is sign painter's lettering enamel, but whenever I want a break from the fumes, I turn to collage. These particular works center on the tension between womens' personhood and the cultural forces which work against it.
