Artist Statement

Using stereotypes of this great country I wanted to poke fun at the excess and gluttony of this United States. This greed and lack of empathy and generosity has left many with little and the few with much. The burger is calling out in distress.

About the Artist

With my current body of work I’ve been exploring the theme of caricature, both social and political satire. Recently I completed a bunch of collages using a variety of media including liquid ink, pencil, fabric, found objects and painting. I started but creating a large amount of ink doodles. Then I cut up the drawings and rearranged them and added other drawings riffing off the original imagery. I can imagine these images translating well into a graphic medium such as printmaking. I’ve been concentrating mainly on figurative representation such as heads, faces and other human anatomy. This approach has been consistent throughout my artistic practice. I often use exaggeration and invented facial features to create both pathos and humor.
