Artist Statement
This work speaks to the use by police of qualified immunity as a shield to protect them from the consequences of their own wrongdoing. The background imagery is a hostage target, with the “hostage” having suffered multiple fatal shots while the attacker received only a couple of superficial injuries. The patrolling officers in the foreground seem only concerned with the latter.
About the Artist
Dan Jaboor is an American mixed-media artist whose collage-based practice blends vintage ephemera with contemporary imagery to create poetic, layered compositions. Working on paper, wood panels, found objects, and in digital formats, he combines aged photographs, typography, and printed materials into visual narratives. Through the reuse of discarded and overlooked materials, Jaboor examines how meaning changes when objects are removed from their original context and reassembled into new stories. Beyond his studio practice, he writes about art, creativity, and music, and participates in community efforts supporting local cultural institutions. His work is shared through exhibitions, publications, original artworks, prints, and online platforms, reaching a broad and engaged audience.
