Artist Statement

As an educator, I am horrified by the censorship playing out across the country. From book bans, to course cancellations, to teachers being asking to remove inclusive classroom decor, and the defunding/cancellation of DEI initiatives. The school house chalkboard in this image reads GOVERNMENT APPROVED LESSONS: MOSTLY ABOUT WHITE PEOPLE which refers directly to the erasure of lessons and histories of people of color.
